Great Day to be a Royal

8 more seasons of not watching a conference road game

ronk

I watch 3 of them in person each year, 2 of them no charge.

I don't think you can get the replays on delay anymore either

I just went to the Landmark network site and the games are all there as replays, even basketball from last season.

Thanks Ryan,

It wasn't obvious to me where that was on the Landmark site and I don't see a link on the Scranton site any longer.

In an annual tradition I will point out that Scranton is playing the early game in their tip off tournament on Friday night. 530 vice 730.

Make it make sense!

Right! For sleeping, studying, and reviewing film on a Friday night in the electric city ! ;)

Honestly, a lot of schools do it.  Virginia Wesleyan is playing first in their tourney on Friday night as well.  I also wonder if they get more fans by playing early and not intruding on whatever other plans people have for the evening.  You can be on to dinner or a movie by 8pm!

Do you think Bess would be playing at 5:00 when he was coaching?
Not a snowball's chance in hell.
The fan base of the Scranton men's program has been in steady decline during Danzig's tenure.
I've seen more intensity & strategy in summer league games.
The Royals need to thank Danzig for 23 years of milquetoast basketball & open the position up.
Too many great young coaches out there to keep doing the same old, same old.

I suspect, with the emphasis placed on rest and recovery these days, home teams playing the early game will be an increasing trend.  Coaches are very big on getting guys off their feet as quickly as possible when there's a short turnaround.  It's one of the reasons they've gone to an off day on championship weekend.

Great Day to be a Royal

If you are planning on going to the game, you are going. You don't care if it is 530 or 730. The bigger issue is how to get students to attend games.  It is a problem that is not exclusive to the University.

I would guess that in a more traditional college town, more kids are showing up. But kids at an urban school, seconds from downtown, especially on a Friday night, are not interested in going to a preseason tip-off game, sadly.

How are other schools drawing kids in?

I mean, being in a small town with nothing else to do is definitely part of it.  I have seen, especially at the bigger/urban schools, offering free food has become a big push, but you've got to have the money to do it.  When I was at Emory last January, they had a food truck out front, giving away Friday dinner to anyone who walked up.  The place was pretty close to full.
