This video stream of Carnegie Mellon at NYU is driving me crazy with the FloCollege technical difficulties message going on and off.

I don't think NYU had that problem last year when Hudl was streaming their home games.

I've seen the problem happen with too many different streams to believe that it is school-related.  I'll assume it is Flo Sports related until proven otherwise.

#230
NYU has scored the first goal of the match vs Carnegie Mellon.

NYU goal scored in the 72nd minute on a goal from Giulio Potenti at the 71:41 mark, assist by Keyon Namdar.

It looks like the goal came off an NYU corner kick, at least indirectly on the rebound.

NYU leading over Carnegie Mellon, 1-0, in the 74th minute.

If this scoreline holds, Carnegie Mellon will need to win at Brandeis on Sunday, as the at-large chances for the Tartans will be nearly gone with a loss to a team ranked at #217 in the NPI going in. (NPI valued at 49.252 through games of Oct. 19).     Carnegie Mellon would only get an approx loss value of 41.864 for losing to NYU, which CMU has to keep.  The Tartans are ranked at #45 in the NPI through games of Oct. 19 with an NPI of 54.830

Well, now that I have had my day of rest-- I will be live posting Matchday #5 in the UAA tomorrow.

First, the line scores from the rest of Friday night--

The big story was up in Rochester, NY on Friday, where Rochester pulled off the home win over WashU, 3-2, and handed the Bears their first UAA conference loss.   Rochester's at-large chances improved with the win, and can improve further if the Yellowjackets follow up with a win over UChicago tomorrow at Fauver Stadium.   The UChicago at Rochester match is the first match of the day and will kick off at 10:30 AM ET.

Earlier on Friday, Carnegie Mellon's at-large chances took what may end up to be a fatal hit when the Tartans lost at NYU outright.  NYU won yesterday, 1-0.  This season, NYU was the one team that other UAA teams were expected to beat, but Carnegie Mellon could not get the job done.   Should Carnegie Mellon win at Brandeis tomorrow, the win might keep the at-large chances for the Tartans on life support.  A tie at Brandeis now is probably not enough for the Tartans to stay in the hunt for an at-large bid to the NCAAs.

In Waltham, MA, Brandeis unfortunately could not score a goal against CWRU, but did play the Spartans to a goalless draw.  Brandeis's NPI took a slight hit from the draw vs CWRU, but the Judges were able to drop the remaining 1/2 win vs Anna Maria as a result of the tie vs CWRU to mitigate the hit.  Two of Brandeis's non-conference opponents, Wheaton (MA) and Coast Guard, played each other in NEWMAC play to a 1-1 draw in New London, CT today, but I will not know until Monday morning what effect that will initially have on the Brandeis NPI.  Keep in mind that any Division III game will affect a team's NPI dynamically to some degree, even if the effect is not noticeable in the published number because the effect happened in the seventh or eighth digit of the NPI.  Published NPIs are only rounded to the thousandth of a point for purposes of NCAA tournament selection.  Brandeis seems to be secure in getting into the NCAA DIII tournament field on an at-large bid with 3 games left, but I may know for sure when the next NPI summary report comes out Monday morning.

In Atlanta, Emory and UChicago played each other to a 1-1 draw.  I believe that Kansas_hokie is watching the Emory games in person this weekend, so he can post later about his experience over the weekend at Woodruff PEC Stadium.  In the D3soccer pool, only 27 percent of the respondents correctly predicted a draw for that game-- 57 percent thought that Emory would win outright.    This week's pool also has the WashU at Emory game tomorrow.

I will live post tomorrow starting at 10:30 AM ET.

Sunday's matches will help us decide if we are going to go to the last weekend (Wash U hosts Chicago; Rochester hosts Emory) to decide the UAA title. Will be a fun Sunday.

Yes, I'm in Atlanta for both matches. Emory had way more chances than Chicago and I'm sure the shot count was imbalanced. Chicago played some counter-attack and their goal was on a brilliant free kick cross and nice finish. Emory didn't have their top goal scorer Ignacio Cubbedo due to a late yellow card in the NYU game. He's a difference maker, but Emory still had plenty of chances to take this one.

We'll see what's left in the tank for the Wash U game. Emory must win to realisticallly keep UAA title hopes alive, Wash U currently controls their own destiny but there's a lot of soccer to be played. Wash U has a horrendous travel schedule, but it's their last trip until NCAA time when they will be travelling away as their women's team will host on campus in the first two rounds.

Regarding Ignacio Cubeddu's 1 match suspension on Friday vs UChicago-- Cubeddu got his 5th yellow card of the season in that game vs NYU.   Because Cubeddu now has 5 yellow cards on the season, he had to sit out on Friday vs UChicago due to yellow card accumulation.    He can play today vs Wash U, but he will have to serve another match suspension for yellow card accumulation if he gets 3 additional yellow cards without a red vs WashU, CWRU, and Rochester.  (1 yellow card each of the remaining 3 straight regular season games.)

3 other Emory players are currently on 4 yellow cards right now and will be serving a match suspension for yellow card accumulation next weekend at CWRU if they pick up a yellow card today.   These players are Lorenzo Avalos, Adeyemi Oni, and Danny Moya.

No WashU players are currently on 4 yellow cards for the season.   Ethan Wirtschafter is leading WashU with 3 yellow cards accumulated.

Among the other UAA teams--

1.)  Brandeis's Kaden Collins had to sit out Friday vs CWRU for yellow card accumulation as well.  Brandeis's Slater Lofreddo is currently on 4 yellow cards, and he will have to sit out next weekend at UChicago if he picks up a yellow card today vs Carnegie Mellon.

2.)  NYU's Felipe Remon is currently leading the Violets with 4 yellow cards and will be suspended next weekend for yellow card accumulation if he picks up a yellow card today vs CWRU.

Other UAA players currently in yellow card trouble--

1.) Rochester-- None
2.) UChicago-- None
3.) CWRU-- None
4.) Carnegie Mellon-- None, but Dominic Hoar-Weiler is currently leading the Tartans with 3 yellow cards accumulated this season.

Another update on yellow card accumulation--

If a player on a UAA men's soccer team picks up his 5th yellow card of the season on the final matchday of UAA play, the mandatory one game suspension for yellow card accumulation is served either (1) in the first round of the NCAA DIII men's soccer tournament if that player's team qualifies for the tournament either automatically or through an at-large bid, or (2) in the first regular season game of next season if that team does not make the NCAA DIII soccer tournament.

If a player makes it through the final day of UAA match play with 4 or fewer yellow cards on the season and that player's team qualifies for the NCAA DIII men's soccer tournament, then the player does not get suspended for yellow card accumulation if the player picks up his 5th yellow card of the season during the tournament.   However, the player would get the 1 match suspension for yellow card accumulation if he picks up his 8th yellow card of the season during that tournament.

Unfortunately, the Bears were without their UAA defensive player of the year on Friday so I assume he will be out today.  Two other key reserves did not play, though I am not sure if that was injury related.  Enjoy the games!

So that is where Cubbedo ended up? think he played for Amherst 2019.
