NYU still leading over WashU, 1-0, in the 68th minute.

It will be the upset of the year in the UAA if NYU holds on to this scoreline.

#296
Final from St. Louis--

NYU 1, WashU 0

A regular season version of a giant killing in the UAA.

NYU's 20th minute goal from Terra Nagai was the only goal of the match, and NYU pulled off the major upset.

It is a shame that due to the technical difficulties with the audio that Jay Murry was not able to call this one.

UChicago can take the lead in the UAA outright with a victory tomorrow over Brandeis.  If Chicago and Brandeis play to a draw, then WashU and UChicago will be the UAA co-leaders going into the final game of the UAA regular season.

Final game stats

NYU's goal came with an assist.

NYU outshot WashU, 9-5, and led in shots on target, 5-3.

WashU took 7 corner kicks, while NYU attempted 3 corner kicks.

NYU was whistled for 8 fouls, while WashU was whistled for 6 fouls.

No players on either team were booked by the referee.

NYU was whistled 5 times for offsides, while WashU was whistled once for offsides.

Update-- I found out why Jay Murry was not calling this game.  He was at Drury University watching his daughter graduate from Drury's Physician Assistant program, and the graduation conflicted with the soccer matches.  Congrats to Jay Murry's daughter on the occasion.

Impact of Saturday results (Emory win, NYU win, Rochester win plus Bowdoin loss in NESCAC and Wash U loss)..

Chicago controls it's UAA destiny, win @ Brandeis and it's down to next week's UC/Wash U match for conference title. Tie Brandeis and Rochester could tie and be co-champion if they beat Emory and UC/Wash U tie.

NPI wise...Emory (59.03) jumps up over chicago for now (will change tomorrow), likely to #4 nationally with Wash U and Bowdoin losses. With Augsburg and St. Olaf in same conference and 2 / 3 nationally, there's a scenario where UAA could get two national top 4 seeds.

Wash U drops to around 14 with loss today.

Rochester win over CMU moves them up to NPI of 55.59...not enough for at-large, they need a result against Emory and a tie might not be enough. Right now a tie would get them to 55.79, right on the bubble.

CMU, CWRU, and NYU won't make the NCAA tourney.

Chicago, Wash U, Emory, and Brandeis will make the tourney.

Actually, Chicago is playing at home vs Brandeis-- so properly, it is Brandeis @ UChicago.  UChicago is home team on Sunday, playing on the Stagg Turf Field/football stadium.  That is why the match is on Sunday this weekend rather than on Saturday with the other 3 UAA games of the round.

Unfortunately, in the football (which the rest of the world calls it as "American football") Senior Day Homecoming game that the UChicago Maroons played today at the Stagg Football Stadium, Monmouth defeated the Maroons, 29-0. in a Midwest Conference match.
