let's hope so.  A top 10 win on the road is not a very common thing even the world of Mount Union.  Grove City, despite their preseason ranking by the experts, was always going to be the better/tougher opponent for Mount in the first couple of weeks

This is not a thing. Both Wheaton and Grove City were ranked in the preseason Top 25. Seems like you will take any shred of data and use it to turn the screws of your bias. I don't remember seeing your preseason rankings. SMH

I was just saying that Grove City (on the road) was likely a tougher game, the 30 point delta in the 3rd quarter seems to be in agreement. I don't feel that there is any need for another meaningless preseason ranking to be made on the internet.  But IMO, Grove City is a better football team than Wheaton.  Sorry if that offended you, but I think that you'll be alright

No offense taken, it is just your opinion. The one score final margin seems to differ with your 3rd quarter assessment. And if we are cherry picking points in time, it was 0-0 at the 13:20 mark of the 1st quarter. Just sayin.

A 30 point lead is definitely a lot (enough as it turned out to be), and against ONU, Muskingum, Otterbein, absolutely pull the starters early.  However, this was not that game.  I think 1st year freshman QB needs to be in that game, until it becomes clockwork.  I think shuffling in #2's with #'1s in the skill positions, or O-line is good.  12 mins on the clock against a seasoned QB/Coach and top end defense... mistake.

All that said, I agree with all of the other comments.  The team looked ready, and prepared.  They looked extremely fast.  I liked the play calling.  Beyond receivers, they're are to really goo tight ends out there, that are capable of making some noise.

The defense looked fast.  I think the number 1 take away for me, which is to be expected in the 1st game, is tackling.  In the 4th quarter, with the foot off the gas and feeling a little tired, missed tackles were the key.  A few TFL's were missed and of course the QB scrambling for 22 yards for a score.

Wheaton had some good receivers that made good catches in the 4th.  FWIW, wheaton scored 13 in the 4th qtr against NCC last year.  Onside kicks are soooo uncommon.  It's hard to prepare for and perform when given the chance.  Wheaton has a tremendous set of D-Lineman and line backers, and to hang 37 in 3 qtrs is pretty impressive.

Moving on to GCC.  I watched about 2/3rds of that game.  GCC was disciplined and deliberate in their game plan.  Cortland had some explosiveness, but not enough consistency.  GCC will come out hard and jacked up.  I think the difference for GCC in this game is the in trenches.  Mount will prove to be superior in size and strength, and with speed they just displayed will be too much.  Defensively, GCC might be better than Wheaton, but not by much, and offensively, GCC will not be nearly as good.

watching the replay of the Mount-Wheaton game, credit to Wheaton for putting up some points in garbage time and always fighting.  Mount's offense was really humming when they were playing a little fast paced/with some rhythm, once they turned into clock running mode...it was...ehh.

The depth at DL looks to be improved in Alliance.  Harris is their top DL, and in his absence the FR Solis flashed a few times, SO Gannelli got the start and played well.  Bowden looks like a run stuffing DT in his senior year.  Logan Parker at 6-3 220 has the size to hold the edge opposite of Brown.  You need a bunch of dudes on the DL in a 15 game season

The energy will be pretty high at Grove City, I'd expect another big first half from the Raiders.  It's that second half "killer instinct"/"ability to close" that we don't always get in the Dartt era.  I hope the big guy proves me wrong

Unless I am mistaken, Adrian offers as many football scholarships as Valpo.

The scholarship count is correct but Valpo still gets other D1 advantages:
- non medical redshirts
- more practice time off-season (spring game etc. )
- recruiting advantage, recruits can say they are D1

if your recruit is bragging about "being D1" at a non-scholarship FCS...they probably wouldn't last too long at a top D3 anyways

Did anyone find a link to the Cortland vs. Grove City game online?

It will be there. This game is being broadcast by KDKA+, digital channel for a station in Pittsburgh, and they haven't released the link yet.

KDKA+ did a great job with the games it broadcast last year. It was a great production. Hopefully the same standards this year!

I think K&J was looking for the Cortland-Grove City game.  Cortland seems to be one of the big brains in D3FB that thinks pulling the replay of their games immediately is some big advantage

Oh, yep, I read too quickly. Indeed, Cortland does not archive its games.

Dr. Acula

Grove City game notes already up?  Now the sports info department is just trolling!

I didn't see any changes to the 2 deep.  GCC has some big boys up front on the OL and the starting FB and RB both checking in at 225 lbs.  Should be a physical game for the D.

The O-line for Wheaton was huge especially their tackles. Big receivers as well.
