Actually, I'll be traveling this weekend: at UW-La Crosse/UW-Whitewater in the afternoon and Wheaton/North Central in the evening. It's too good a doubleheader to pass up.

Also, Bethel doesn't have enough press box space and last year was only able to grant a sideline pass for this game. That wasn't enough access for me to get the work done I need to so I don't know that I'll be able to cover Johnnie-Royal games at Bethel going forward.

Makes a lot of sense, Pat. What a doubleheader day.

And, wow, Bethel ... seems like a short-sided decision. Is space really that tight?

Pat Coleman

It is when the visiting team brings radio, yes, apparently. It was not an issue for the two playoff games I covered at Bethel last fall.

Boys of Fall

Also is anyone part of this: https://www.johnniefootballnetwork.org/

I'd be interested in it, especially if there's lots of old game films on there, which it looks like might be the case. And of course to help support the program with $.

I'm on the johnniefootballnetwork.  There isn't too much information on there that isn't already on the GoJohnnie's site except for some videos and individual contact info.  Seems like this will grow into a better networking site, and maybe even lead to some NIL donation platforms.  Fun to run down the list of names............

I mean, we could tell VOJ he doesn't have space.

This week brings:
The Oles @ Auggie Tech
The Carls @ Gusties
The Schollies @ The Cobbers
SJU @ Bethel
The HamDawgs @ Mac

With the exception of CSS/Cobs, these should all be competitive games.  Aside from SJU doling out a Monkey Stomp OutTM to Bethel, I am most interested in the Carleton/Gustie game.  Carleton has been trending upward, and the Gusties don't seem particularly stout this year.  Where is Carleton's MIAC ceiling?

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Oles by 7
Carl (Keep Stackin') Knight  over Gus Davis by a FG
Cobbers by 4 TD's
Johnnies / Royals Toss Up...I personally think it's too close to call
Pipers by 2 TD's

I could see Carleton being in the top half of the league...unfortunately the bar seems to be dropping well under the top 2 programs.
I think part of the issue is that coaches are recruiting from all over and don't really know what kind of players they're bringing in. I think over half of Hamline's team is from outside the state of Minnesota.

So the "Inside the Huddle" folks made a point to say that Bethel "paid" get the D1Rejects crew on site Saturday.

What's the deal?

Pat Coleman

I don't know that it's super important to get into this beef that ITH has with D1Rejects.

Just marketing dollars, right?  Instead of ads, you pay for location.  Sounds genuinely legit to me.

EDIT: I do mean genuinely legit. No sarcasm. Why wouldn't a school do this?

Big game for Bethel today. Let's ****ing go Baptist Royals! Hoping everyone here on the MIAC board and their loved ones are well!

I don't think sju deserves a playoff spot right now-but with npi

TheChucker

Lol. That last phantom PI call against SJU that iced it for Bethel could be one of the worst calls I've ever seen. I pulled the game up on the TV app just too see that... I have no dog in this fight, either.

BU was flat out physically stronger. SJU playing calling on the goal line was abysmal. Get the quarterbacks ass under center and push the f-ing ball in.
Only consolation is that I didn't have high hopes for this team. Conference is a two horse race. If. Johnnies get into playoffs they will be on the road and maybe win a game.
