Brandeis starting goalkeeper Tyler Correnti has been pulled out of the match after playing 76 minutes.

#1 Benny Shin now in goal for Brandeis.

Hard to describe how thoroughly outclassed the Judges were today. I say outclassed because Brandeis was clearly targeting No. 6 and No. 32 today.

It happens, but I do not like it.

At least for consolation, I saw Jay Murry on the video feed from the booth with a post-match interview with WashU men's head soccer coach Andrew Borderlon with Bordelon's comments on today's match.  The WashU goalkeeper Cal L'Hommedieu also got a post-match interview from Jay Murry.

Quote from: deiscanton on October 04, 2025, 01:37:12 PMWUPHF mentioned earlier today about how WashU got a great class of first year players this season, but junior Ethan Wirtschafter is proving to be the man of the match today.

He will be among the 2-3 finalists for player of the year honors.  As a junior, he would need to lead his team to a league championship or co-championship to win it.

I just wanted to make a clarification on what I wrote yesterday-- Jonah White does indeed have a play by play contract with U. Chicago athletics to do some home games this academic year, but the contract is only to cover the UChicago men's soccer home games this season.   I humbly apologize for the mistake, as it was a result of not going through the replays of all of the UChicago home soccer matches this season.   He made his UChicago men's soccer home play by play debut on September 6, 2025, when UChicago hosted Milwaukee School of Engineering, but he has done the play by play of all UChicago men's soccer home matches this season.  While I miss him doing the Brandeis home play-by-play, I will be looking forward to his coverage of more UChicago home games this season-- in men's soccer this season, and hopefully for basketball from the Ratner Center this winter.

Quote from: deiscanton on October 04, 2025, 01:03:05 PMLooks like Brandeis alum Jonah White will be doing the play by play for the UChicago UAA home soccer games this season, as he is currently a grad student at Northwestern.

Sure enough, Jonah White with the call of the NYU at UChicago doubleheader today.

I am going to have to catch him later today on the on-demand feed, as I really miss him doing the Brandeis home play by play this season.   At least he will still be doing play by play in the UAA this year, even if it is with UChicago Maroons home games.

Emory men's soccer looking to win in Pittsburgh for the first time since November 3, 2012.    In the previous 6 matches that Emory played at Carnegie Mellon in men's soccer, the Eagles went 0-3-3.   Emory is 4-11-4 vs Carnegie Mellon in UAA men's soccer matches played at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.  Overall, Carnegie Mellon leads this series, 16-13-8 vs Emory.

Watching the matches on FloCollege, it seems that the video stream is streaming on at least one minute behind the live stats feed, so the game is actually live on the live stats, so when a goal is scored, the live stats sometimes record that goal first, and then you see the goal a minute later on the streaming feed.  Of course, with the on-demand replay, you can instantly rewind the game to see the goal on instant replay.

Carnegie Mellon has just scored the equalizer.

The equalizer was scored in the 51st minute off a set piece corner kick by #25 Idan Garten, assisted by #21 James Ashby.  It was the first corner kick of the match.   (Goal scored at 50 minutes, 48 seconds into the match.)

Emory and Carnegie Mellon now tied at 1-1.

Tartans have been doing a decent job marking Emory's Ignacio Cubeddu so far, according to the Carnegie Mellon commentary.

No second half shots taken by Cubeddu so far.   Just 3 shots taken by Cubeddu in the first half, with 2 of those on target.

Final from Pittsburgh--

Emory and Carnegie Mellon finish with a 1-1 draw.

Nick Schmieg did the play-by-play of this game, while Kevin Zielmanski was on color.   Both commentators are regulars on the Presidents Athletic Conference Sports Network, which is the parent network for Carnegie Mellon athletics broadcasts,as the old CMU Tartans Sports Network is a sister channel of the PAC Sports Network.   Unfortunately, the commentators forgot to mention that FloCollege was streaming this contest, instead referring to the game being produced on the CMU Sports Network, while they should be mentioning "CMU Sports Network on FloSports".

Emory drops to 10-0-1 on the season, 0-0-1 in the UAA.   Carnegie Mellon improves to 7-1-4, 0-0-1 in the UAA.

Both the Eagles and the Tartans get a point in the standings.

The co-leaders in the UAA after 1 match round are WashU and UChicago, each at 3 points in the standings, and each with a +3 conference goal differential for tiebreaking purposes.  (UAA tiebreaker rules only allow teams to count only 3 goals of a victory margin per UAA soccer match, so while both UChicago and WashU each won their matches by 4-0 scorelines, in effect only 3 of those goals in the 4 goal victory margins will count toward the conference goal differential.)

Emory, Carnegie Mellon, Rochester, and CWRU each have 1 point in the standings.

Brandeis and NYU with 0 points.

With the tie, Emory cannot start dropping wins vs lowest ranked NPI teams to boost their NPI yet as the Eagles did not get their 11th victory today--- the Eagles have to count this tie in their NPI calculations, as all ties and losses in soccer must be kept in the resume for NCAA Power Index calculations.  Emory will have a chance to get the 11th win to start dropping games when the Eagles play at Brandeis next Saturday.

No UAA men's soccer team was able to drop games off their NPI soccer calculations last year, as no UAA men's team had 10 actual wins in their resume last season.  For men's soccer, you must keep at least 10 actual wins in your resume for NPI purposes.   All ties and losses are kept as well.

The DIII men's and women's soccer committees are expected to release their first official NPI Summary reports of the season tomorrow for games played through Sunday, October 5, 2025, as they used the first week of October to start releasing the NPI soccer season reports last season.   The DIII men's soccer committee accidentally published an NPI Summary Report for a few hours early last Monday, but pulled the report when they realized that it was too early to release a report.  The DIII women's soccer committee did not release an NPI Summary report last week.

NCAA Power Index numbers are dynamic, and they change with each DIII soccer game played.

I just watched the Carnegie Mellon equalizer vs Emory on the FloCollege replay.  It looked like Emory did not mark Garten well enough when James Ashby took the corner, so Garten was able to get a header off the corner in the 51st minute to give Carnegie Mellon with what will turn out to be a quality tie vs Emory right now, and perhaps a quality tie that will boost NCAA tournament at-large selection chances for the Tartans at the end of the season.

I appreciate the tiebreaker scenarios, but once or twice a season, I'll remind others that the UAA does award co-champions.

Every co-champion is entitled to brag about being the UAA champion.  The winner of the tiebreaker does get the auto-bid, but not bragging rights.

Also, where did Carnegie Mellon find that Idan Garten kid, wow!
