Whitewater putting the finishing touches on a mercy rule victory over Platteville to advance to Championship Saturday. They'll have to beat UWO twice tomorrow to earn the automatic bid to the D3 Baseball Championship.

Regardless of how tomorrow goes, both teams should still be playing next weekend.

Will be interesting to see if a win by UWO today would be enough to push the Titans ahead of La Crosse when the updated NPI standings come out tomorrow. Going into today, they are separated by just two spots.

The more interesting thing to me would be if all three earned the right to host a four team Regional if they all finished in the Top 16 of the NPI Rankings.

Whitewater was down to their last out but gets a two out single, passed ball, infield single and a RBI single to LF to tie the game 3-3.

UWO will have a chance to walk it off in the 9th inning however...

UWO proceeds to go walk, SAC Bunt (reached on E1) and another SAC Bunt to put runners on 2nd & 3rd with one out. A fielders choice loaded the bases, but Brust got a strikeout and F6 to send the game to extra innings.

What we are watching in Region X

My quick-and-dirty guess at the NPI shuffle. Rank is the NPI rank.

Rank School  Bid C #  NPI score  05/10 opponent

40)  P-Pitzer Bid #21 56.896  Hosts CMS (Rank #20 Bid #8) in elimination game. (La Verne Rank #8 awaits the winner.) McMurry and Redlands root for CMS.
41)  ETBU    Pool A
42)  Rhodes  Bid #22  56.873 In the finals and will meet winner of Centre Rank #17 vs Millsaps Rank #24, Bid #8) McMurry and Redlands want Rhodes to lose 2. (but McMurry had win over Rhodes???)
43) Keystone  Bid #23  56.898 Playing PSU-Harrisburg (in UEC winner's round 2 games). Finals tomorrow. McMurry and Redlands root from Keystone to be eliminated.

______________________________

44) Coe "Bid #24" 56.845 Plays Nebraska Wesleyan (Rank #151) in elimination game. winner player Buena Vista Rank #22. McMurry and Redlands root for Neb Wes
45) McMurry "bid #25" 56.836
46) Redlands "bid #26" 56.679
47) Wittenberg "bid #27" 56.609; lost 2 games yesterday

WARNING: Bubble buster!

Denison (NCAC) plays Wooster #82 and must win 2 games to win the tourney.

Might a loss to Wooster knock Denison out of hosting a super-Regional down the line.

UWO hoses a Whitewater runner at the plate with nobody out in the 10th and escapes the threat with no damage. The Titans don't score in the 10th however and then the Warhawks start the 11th with four straight singles to take a 6-3 lead. Whitewater is three outs away from forcing the "if necessary" game later today.

Edit-UWO gets the tying run to the plate in the 11th but Eisenbarth gets a pop-up on the infield to escape the threat.

Whitewater finally opening things up on UWO in the 6th inning of the Championship game of the WIAC Tournament. The Warhawks chase Walters from the mound and put up six runs to take a 7-0 lead as they head to the 7th inning.

Whitewater drops the opening game of the WIAC Tournament and then comes back to win four straight to secure the Tournament Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA D3 Baseball Championship.

The odds are pretty good that Whitewater will host a four team Regional and that La Crosse and UWO will receive at-large bids as well. It sure would be nice to see La Crosse and UWO put in Regionals not located in Whitewater!

I agree. I think the committee will send one of them to Gusty.

Would make sense travel wise to send La Crosse to GAC, unless of course they manage to hang on and get one of the last host sites?

Any chance UWO goes to Webster should tbe Gorlocks end up hosting?

Denison "holds serve". Bubble preserved for one more team.

I would love for the WIAC to be dispersed to 3 differnt regionals.

MSOE locks up the NACC Auto-Bid. 1 Bid league out of there considering how much all the teams beat up on each other during league play this season.

Could see Whitewater hosting a Regional that looks like:
#1-Whitewater (#3)
#2-Baldwin Wallace (#33)
#3-Adrian (#74)
#4-Manchester (#85)

Could see Gustavus-Adolphus hosting a Regional that looks like:
#1-GAC (#14)
#2-University of Chicago (#36)
#3-Bethany Lutheran (#81)
#4-North Central (#116)

Could see Webster hosting a Regional that looks like:
#1-Webster (#15)
#2-UWO (#24)
#3-Ohio Northern (#34)
#4-MSOE (#89)

Could see La Crosse hosting a Regional that looks like this:
#1-La Crosse (#16)
#2-Buena Vista (#20)
#3-WashU (#31)
#4-Beloit (#80)

All within 500 miles, so no flights...

Feel like seeding actually makes somewhat decent sense too, though Webster and La Crosse Regionals a bit more top heavy compared to Whitewater and GAC Regionals.

-NPI Ranking through this morning in parentheses, so those will change slightly by end of Sunday's games.

Thoughts Ralph, Jim, or Pat?

Here is how drastic 2 losses can be.

From 05/09 to 05/10, Oswego State lost 2 games and fell from 57.704 to 56.810, 0.094 points, from #30 to #42. I have that fall from bid #14 to  bid #23, last one in.

Oneonta was #139, NPI 52.486, as of 05/09 the day before the Oswego game.. That explains the massive drop for Oswego.
