It was a good day for the SCAC!

Trinity defeated Huntingdon 20-2 while keeping their #1 starter, Jace Clay, in reserve.

Tied at six, Concordia(TX) walked off Oswego State, 7-6, though they did burn their #1 starter Otto Franz (8.1 IP, 5 ER) in the process.  Oswego tried to get a complete game out of their #2, Joel Hayner.  Dakota Palmer is almost as effective on the mound as Franz and you'd imagine he'll get the start for the Tornadoes tomorrow.

3-0 Day for the WIAC on the first day of Regionals.

La Crosse beats Bethany Lutheran 4-2

McMurry pulled out to a 7-1 lead but P-P kept chipping away. In the bottom of the 8th, tied 7-7, McM CF Koy Carpenter made a rally-snuffing ESPN-worthy diving catch to end the inning. In the top of the 9th C Michael Smosma led off with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Beckham Paul (sic), for his 3rd RBI of the day.

McMurry got 6 strong innings out of their starter Hunter Poe, who did not get the win (bummer).

The SCAC went 3-0.

Good for McMurry, but not the best look for the tournament as a whole. There shouldn't be 15s and 30s thrown up in a regional, especially with at-large teams on the receiving end.

I'd take it a step further and say especially in the first game of a Regional. I've seen some lopsided scores later in Regionals, but those are typically in elimination games when teams are out of pitching.

Oh I agree. I believe we see that especially in the teams whose NPI's were in the 60's and lower, the one-bid conferences. They had a strong #1 pitcher who carried the team thru conference play and the tourney. Sometimes that #1 pulls an upset in the first round of the playoffs or holds the higher seed close. The Bethany Lutheran 4-2 loss to UW-L, the 5-2 loss by Bridgewater St to Endicott and 4-2 loss by Husson to Kean were examples for me.

My concern for McMurry is the bullpen and to a lesser degree, defense. I believe that the box score was incorrect. I thought that McMurry deserved a second error in the last innings, leading to an unearned run.

#66
All three SCAC teams will be playing for regional championships tomorrow, with McMurry and Trinity both needing a single win, and Concordia needing two.  After defeating top-seeded La Verne 5-4, the War Hawks will face [edit] Pomona-Pitzer.  Trinity will either see ETBU, who they defeated 12-10 after falling behind 10-5 after six and one half only to score six in the bottom of the inning, or Huntingdon who are yet to play.  Concordia, who won the final elimination game 9-7 with a walkoff over Oswego State for the second straight day courtesy a two out, three-run homer from pinch-hitter Jake Townsend (who wouldn't have been at the plate if not for a Oswego throwing error earlier in the inning), have the daunting task of taking two from Endicott who drilled them 11-0 earlier in the day.

With one win each tomorrow, Trinity and McMurry would face off in a super regional next week (and this time there's no graduation to get in the way of Trinity hosting).

If CMS wins the game that they are currently leading, there will be 4 regions with a west team in the final. It looks like RPI validates the level of competition in the west.

A second straight 3-0 Day for the WIAC, which improves their overall Regional record to 6-0 this season.

-Whitewater defeated WashU 4-3
-La Crosse defeated CMS 8-6
-UWO defeated GAC 15-10

All three WIAC teams get two chances to win just a single game tomorrow and advance to Super Regionals.

Whomever comes out of the ETBU-Huntingdon elimination is going to be tired as they have been in a weather delay for at least an hour, if not two, in the bottom of the sixth with one out, Huntingdon up 4-3, and ETBU has runners at first and second with one out.  They should be able to get underway pretty soon as the weather has moved east but there was some lightning lingering a little while ago.

Ralph Turner

ETBU -Huntingdon was back and forth. ETBU ties in the bottom of the 8th on an Hunter Rumachik 2-run HR. HC goes up 8-7 in the 9th and then Rumachik delivers another 2-run HR with 2 outs to win it in the bottom of the 9th.

WIAC improves to 7-0 as Whitewater defeats Adrian 4-1 to advance to Super Regionals.

Make that a quick 7-2...

Chicago knocks off UWO 7-3 and CMS defeats La Crosse 11-2 forcing a pair of "winner take all" games to advance to Super Regionals.

McMurry is about to blow past Pitzer and book their trip to the Super Regionals, up 12-3 in the bottom of the eighth.
Concordia(TX) fell again to Endicott to put an end to their fine season 7-3.   No shame in losing to Endicott.
Trinity(TX) got two-hit by a combination of three ETBU pitchers, falling 4-0 and will play the rubber game next for the chance to meet McMurry.

UWO gets a CG from Walters and knocks off Chicago 10-2 to advance to Super Regionals.

In the process it guarantees a WIAC team at the World Series again as Whitewater and UWO will square off in Super Regionals next weekend.
